Tour Bus Driver ‘Doesn’t See’ Woman In West Village, Hits Her

by | Jun 19, 2014 | Bus & Subway Accidents

An elderly woman’s life is hanging in the balance after she was run over by a double-decker tour bus in the West Village.

The woman was crossing the road at 14th Street and 7th Avenue on Wednesday when the tour bus hit her. Witnesses said the pedestrian was knocked down by the front tires of the bus and then rolled underneath the 12-ton vehicle.

“Her head was fractured. Her legs looked broken and ripped up,” witness Fred Taylor, 48, of Jackson Heights told the NY Post.

The bus accident marks another tourism-related injury in New York City. Tourism is an important industry in NYC, but some tour companies have an unsatisfactory record of keeping their sightseeing excursions safe. When safety precautions are ignored or overlooked, a tourist or an innocent bystander may become a victim.

Common types of NYC sightseeing trips include:

  • Bicycle tours
  • Bus tours
  • Boat tours
  • Helicopter tours

New York law permits injured tourists to bring injury or wrongful death lawsuits, even if the tourist has returned home. Speak with an experienced NYC tourism accident lawyer to discuss the details of your case.
