Injured Construction Worker Settles Lawsuit Against NYC For $6.3M

A 43-year-old construction worker has settled a construction injury lawsuit against New York City for $6.3 million.

The victim was working atop scaffolding at a Brooklyn school when it gave way, sending him into a 20-foot freefall. Moments earlier, he told a Service Contract Act (SCA) contractor that the scaffolding was unsafe to work on but his concerns were ignored.

Now, the victim is unable to work and perform simple physical tasks like tying his shoes.

“I try to make the best of it in front of everybody but alone it’s a horror show . . . I’m 43 and I feel like I’m 83,” Brian Petrides told the New York Post after settling his lawsuit.

When a serious NYC construction accident occurs, it is important that the victim or family explores all of their legal options. New York law allows construction accident victims to recover money damages from a variety of parties, depending on the circumstances.

Liable parties may include:

  • Contactors
  • Subcontractors
  • Property owners
  • The city
  • Manufacturers of defective or unsafe tools or equipment

If your family has been impacted by an accident, speak with a reputable attorney to review your legal options.
