A collision caused a school bus to roll onto its side in a Bedford-Stuyvesant intersection last week, injuring six children and three adults.
The crash occurred at Halsey Street and Marcy Avenue when a New York City Boro cab ran a red light. The impact caused the cab to careen into a utility pole while the bus tipped onto its side.
The rollover sparked terror in the students; many of them withspecial needs due to autism or other disorders. Concerned citizens rushed to help the injured children out of the school bus before they were taken to the hospital.
The intersection of Halsey and Marcy is one of Brooklyn’s most dangerous. Residents said that auto accidents occur there all the time, but the sight of injured and scared children was particularly impactful.
According to reports, the taxi cab driver will be cited for running the red light.
This bus accident is unsettling to many NYC parents. We assume our children are safe once they board the bus and are on their way to school, but the negligence of a single motorist can suddenly put dozens of children in harm’s way.
