Harlem Girl, 3, Dies From Being Trapped In Sofa Bed

by | Oct 17, 2013 | Product Liability

Parents know that there’s no shortage of dangers they need to protect their children from, but sometimes harm can come from unobvious sources. A fatal accident in Harlem provides a heart-wrenching illustration of how this can happen.

Aissante, only 3 years old, was playing with her older sisters, 5 and 10, when the sofa bed she was playing on folded down. Aissante was trapped inside the bed and succumbed to suffocation.

At this point, it’s unclear whether negligent supervision was involved. Aissante’s mother’s boyfriend was watching the three children when the fatal accident occurred.

Regardless of supervision, it’s horrifying to think that a sofa bed can present a fatal danger to child. Sadly, we see a fair amount of children harmed by lead paint or defective toys, cribs and car seats. But this tragic death reminds us that products of all types can harm children.

If the negligence of a person or company has seriously harmed or killed your kid, contact an experienced New York child injury attorney to discuss your legal options.
