Weekend Filled With Lots Of Tragedy In Brooklyn, Bronx

by | May 21, 2013 | Pedestrian Accidents, Taxi Accidents

It was a particularly devastating weekend for pedestrians in the Bronx and Brooklyn – even by NYC standards. The string of accidents caused five hospitalizations and two wrongful deaths. Most of the victims were children.

On Friday in the Bronx, two boys were hospitalized with brain injuries after being hit by a vehicle at Morrison and Westchester avenues. Both children were listed in critical condition at Jacobi Hospital.

An hour later, an SUV drove erratically on Grand Concourse, striking three pedestrians. One of the victims, 16, died in St. Barnabas Hospital. Her classmate and an adult victim survived the accident with serious injuries.

Several hours later, also on Grand Concourse, a 14-year-old Bronx girl was hit by an automobile. An eye witness said the young victim smashed into the windshield before falling to the pavement. She was hospitalized in critical condition.

In Brooklyn, a livery cab killed a cyclist. The fatal bicycle accident occurred on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights. The New York Police Department (NYPD) has released little information about the collision. The taxi driver said he and the cyclist were travelling in the same direction when the victim swerved in front of him, but it appears there were no witnesses to corroborate or conflict his story. The victim was male, but his age is unknown.

Unfortunately, 2013 is continuing a trend of deadly pedestrian crashes. If you’ve been seriously injured, contact an experienced New York City pedestrian accident lawyer to discuss your legal options. Even if the NYPD refuses to ticket the motorist, you may still have a case.
