At least 11 people were injured Thursday morning when a “dollar van” and taxi collided in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood. The crash occurred at Lefferts and Rogers Avenues. Accident-scene photos published by the Daily News show that a third vehicle, a sedan, crashed into a light pole.
The taxi-van accident injured 11 people, 5 severely. The seriously injured victims were taken to Kings County Hospital, Downstate Medical Center, New York Methodist Hospital and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. Police are still investigating the collision.
This accident leaves some important questions. Were the passenger van and livery cab licensed car services carrying at least $100,000/$300,000 in liability insurance coverage? Will liability and no-fault insurance coverage sufficiently cover the medical expenses of the injured persons? When serious injuries occurred, insurance policy limits may quickly be exhausted.
